چکیده

Right heart failure was produced in dogs by controlled progressive stenosis of the pulmonary artery. Cardiac enlargement, systemic venous engorgement, tachycardia, hepatomegaly and ascites were consistent findings. The course of cardiac failure was characterized by continual changes in cardiovascular hemodynamics; either cardiac decompensation became progressively severe or circulatory function improved and diuresis resulted. Sodium (Na) retention was always associated with high central venous pressure. Cardiac output was reduced during Na retention except during spontaneous anemia superimposed on cardiac failure. Glomeralar filtration rate was frequently normal at the onset of cardiac failure.

Effects of acute and chronic digoxin administration in dogs with right-sided congestive heart failure produced by pulmonary artery constriction.

Acute and chronic responses to digoxin have been studied in dogs with cardiac failure secondary to constriction of the pulmonary artery. Cardiovascular and renal hemoclynamic function improved and, frequently, a striking increase in sodium (Na) excretion resulted. The data suggest a direct myocardial action of digoxin and provide evidence of impaired myocardial function similar to that observed...

Vasopressin V1-Receptor Inhibition in Chronic Right-Sided Congestive Heart Failure

Arginine vasopressin is elevated in congestive heart failure. To determine the efrect of arginine vasopressin upon systemic hemodynamics and regional blood flows, we administered the specific inhibitor of the vascular action of vasopressin [1-(p-mercapto-f,i3-cyclopentamethylenepropionic acid),2-(0-methyl)-tyrosine]-arginine vasopressin [d(CH2)5Tyr(Me)AVP] to 15 dogs with chronic right-heart fa...

Increased aldosterone secretion in dogs with right-sided congestive heart failure and in dogs with thoracic inferior vena cava constriction.

Studies (1-5) of patients with congestive heart failure, decompensated hepatic cirrhosis and nephrosis have provided evidence of increased amounts of aldosterone or aldosterone-like substances in urine during edema or ascites formation. More recently, it has been demonstrated (6) that increased urinary excretion of aldosterone occurs in association with sodium retention in dogs with right heart...

Opiate receptor inhibition improves the blunted baroreflex function in conscious dogs with right-sided congestive heart failure.

The endogenous opiate system is activated in congestive heart failure. because endogenous opioids are known to depress the baroreflex function, we conducted studies to determine whether the increased endogenous opioids play a role in causing the reduced baroreflex function that occurs in heart failure. Right-sided congestive heart failure was produced in 16 dogs by tricuspid avulsion and progre...

Decreased Adrenergic Neuronal Uptake

The reduction of myocardial beta-adrenoceptor density in congestive heart failure has been thought to be caused by agonistinduced homologous desensitization. However, recent evidence suggests that excessive adrenergic stimulation may not produce myocardial beta-receptor downregulation unless there is an additional defect in the local norepinephrine (NE) uptake mechanism. To investigate the asso...
